John Denver became a star thanks to the folk songs that he wrote, many of them situated in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. grew up in Roswell New Mexico. He discovered love for Colorado. He later settled in Aspen. Denver's state anthems have inspired numerous people to go to Colorado. G. Brown of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declares that John Denver is unlike any other musician who represents Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fame's first ever inductee. Denver is a symbol of the state for people worldwide. While traveling, I may meet people at opposite sides of the world. Like, for instance, someone who is from New Zealand. And when you tell them you're from Colorado you will get "Oh John Denver!" Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo performer after a brief stint in small folk bands. Danoff was credited with Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the track, however Denver discovered that it was destined to become a smash hit when the song was first heard by him. He recorded it just a few days following performing on stage in Washington D.C. before an large crowd who were very appreciative.
